Chastity Cages: A Beginner's Guide to Fit, Safety & Wear Time

Chastity devices have grown significantly in popularity, and for good reason — they offer a unique dynamic of control, trust, and anticipation. If you're new to chastity play, this guide will help you understand how to choose the right device, wear it safely, and maintain good hygiene throughout.

What Is a Chastity Cage?

A chastity cage is a device worn over the penis that physically prevents erection and sexual activity. It consists of a cage (which covers the shaft) and a base ring (which sits behind the scrotum). The two are connected and secured with a lock. One person wears the device; another holds the key — though solo chastity play is also common.

Choosing the Right Material

  • Silicone — Lightweight, flexible, and comfortable for beginners. Easier to size and more forgiving if measurements aren't perfect. Our Silicone Chastity Cage is a great starting point.
  • Metal — Heavier, more secure, and more durable. Better suited to those with experience who know their measurements well.

Sizing: Getting It Right

Fit is everything with chastity devices. An ill-fitting cage can cause discomfort, skin irritation, or circulation issues.

Measure two things:

  1. Base ring diameter — Measure the circumference around the base of the penis and scrotum together, then divide by π (3.14) to get the diameter. The ring should be snug but not tight — you should be able to slip one finger underneath.
  2. Cage length — Measure the flaccid penis length. The cage should be close to this length; too long and it won't be effective, too short and it will be uncomfortable.

When in doubt, size up on the cage and size down on the ring — you can always adjust.

Safe Wear Times

  • Beginners: Start with 1–2 hours to assess comfort and fit
  • Short-term wear: Up to 8 hours is manageable for most people once accustomed to the device
  • Extended wear: Requires significant experience, careful hygiene, and regular removal for cleaning
  • Never sleep in a chastity device until you are very experienced and have worn it comfortably for extended periods while awake

Hygiene During Wear

  • Rinse the cage with warm water in the shower daily
  • Use a soft bottle brush or cotton buds to clean inside the cage
  • Dry thoroughly after cleaning — moisture trapped against skin can cause irritation
  • Remove the device fully at least every 24–48 hours for a thorough clean

Emergency Removal

Always keep a spare key accessible — either with a trusted person or in a sealed envelope you can access in an emergency. If a metal device becomes stuck or causes pain, seek medical assistance promptly.
